A man and a youth are facing charges after an incident earlier today in Bedford.

At 3:40 a.m., a patrol officer approached two suspicious individuals in the 200 block of Rocky Lake Drive. They were found in possession of stolen goods and arrested without incident. One of the individual provided a false name to officers and it was later determined that there were two outstanding warrants for his arrest. A check of the area revealed that several cars on Sunnyvale Crescent, Scotia Drive and Gordon Street were broken into and items stolen.

A 16-year-old male youth from Lower Sackville was held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court later today. He faces seven counts of trespass at night, three counts of theft under $5000, three counts of possession of stolen property under $5000 and one count of obstruction. A 20-year-old man from Lower Sackville was released from custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date. He is facing charges of theft, possession of stolen property and trespass at night.

Police would like to remind citizens that thefts from vehicles are generally crimes of opportunity, with the sight of items being a temptation for would-be thieves. Citizens should remove all items from their vehicles, lock the doors and close the windows upon exiting. If it is absolutely necessary to leave items in your vehicle, locked them in the trunk out of plain view before arriving at your destination. Anyone observing suspicious activity in or around parked vehicles should report it to police immediately at 490-5020.
