Halifax District RCMP arrested three drivers for impaired driving and charged two drivers with stunting this past weekend.
On May 8, at approximately 11 p.m., a Halifax District RCMP officer initiated a traffic stop after observing a Mitsubishi Mirage failing to stop at two stop signs on Downsview Dr. in Lower Sackville. During the traffic stop, the driver, a 23-year-old man from Bedford, was exhibiting signs of impairment, prompting the officer to demand a breath sample. The man provided a breath sample that resulted in a “fail”. The driver was arrested and transported to the Lower Sackville detachment where he provided subsequent breath samples that registered 130mg%. The driver is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Impaired Operation of a Conveyance over 80mg%
On May 7, at approximately 10 p.m., a Halifax District RCMP officer initiated a traffic stop after observing a Volkswagen Jetta travelling at a high rate of speed on Hwy. 7 in Porters Lake. The driver, a 32-year-old woman from Cole Harbour, displayed signs of impairment while speaking with the officer and provided a sample of breath that resulted in a “fail”. The driver was arrested and transported to the Musquodoboit Harbour RCMP detachment where she provided a breath sample that registered 150mg%. The woman is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Impaired Operation of a Conveyance over 80mg%.
On May 6, at approximately 11:55 p.m., Halifax District RCMP was conducting traffic enforcement on Hwy. 7 in Westphal when an officer observed a Volkswagen Jetta travelling at 143km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The officer completed a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, an 18-year-old man from Dartmouth, was issued a Summary Offence Ticket for stunting. The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50.
Also that evening, at approximately 8 p.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to two 911 calls regarding a possible impaired driver travelling in a Chevrolet Silverado. An RCMP officer located the vehicle when it was travelling at 190km/h on Hwy. 107 between Porters Lake and Musquodoboit Harbour. The driver, a 48-year-old man from Musquodoboit Harbour, displayed signs of impairment during his interactions with the officer. The driver was arrested and transported to the Cole Harbour RCMP detachment where he failed to provide a suitable sample of breath into an approved instrument. The driver is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance, Refusal of a Demand, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and he was also issued a Summary Offence Ticket for stunting.
