January 23, 2013, Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia . . . At approximately 7:00 p.m. members of Tantallon RCMP and Halifax Regional Police responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision at Timberlea Parkway and Brunello Boulevard.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a full size pick-up truck driven by a 34-year-old  Halifax man lost control and hit an oncoming van which was driven by a father with his five and eight year old sons.

The five year old boy succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced deceased upon arrival to the IWK. His brother was also taken to the IWK hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the father was not hurt. The driver of the truck was taken to the QEII Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A collision re-constructionist was called to the scene and the collision is currently under investigation. Road conditions appear to have been a contributing factor in the collision and motorists are reminded to slow down during slippery winter conditions.
