To leash or not to leash?

Now that the dog days of summer are here, HRM Animal Services is reminding dog owners of their responsibility to keep their dogs on a leash unless in a designated off leash area.

Summer is the perfect time for you and your canine companion to enjoy quality time outdoors but you need to remember that a leash is your pooch’s best friend.

HRM By-Law A-300 requires dogs to be leashed at all times when you’re off of your property unless you’re visiting one of HRM’s off leash areas or signs are present indicating that it’s alright to have your dog off-leash.

This legislation is intended to create a safe environment for people and pets, and failing to comply can be costly – owners found to be in violation may receive a $340.21 fine.

Call 490-4000 to report a dog running at large.
