Traffic rerouted on Highway 125 as RCMP investigate serious collision, Sydney River, N.S.

RCMP Cape Breton Traffic Services are on scene of a head-on collision on Highway 125 in Sydney River. Westbound traffic is being detoured at Exit 7 (Alexandra St) while eastbound traffic is being detoured between exits 6 (Sydney River) and 7 (Alexandra St).

At approximately 8:25 a.m. today, RCMP, Sydney River Fire Dept and Emergency Health Services (EHS) responded to a report of a collision near Exit 6. Cape Breton Regional Police Service and Dept of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal are also assisting RCMP at scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a car traveling eastbound collided with a dump truck traveling westbound. After impact, the truck landed on its side. Both drivers were transported to Cape Breton Hospital by EHS, their injuries are considered serious.

An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the investigation. The cause of the crash has not been determined. RCMP is advising motorists to expect delays until approximately 1:00 p.m. today.
