Thursday, September 12, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – Media are invited to attend the kick-off event for HRM’s first Open Data Hackathon this Friday, September 13 at 5 p.m.

, an event which officially launches the app development phase of the Apps4Halifax contest.

Join Mayor Mike Savage who will announce the new Apps4Halifax contest sponsors; Milan Vrekic, Executive Director of Volta, the Halifax startup house that is co-hosting the Hackathon; and approximately 150 developers, designers, ideas people, and supporters of the Open Data Pilot Project as they converge for the first time to pitch ideas and form teams.

The Open Data Hackathon is a 3 day-long marathon devoted to collaborative creation and coding that will benefit HRM residents. Over the weekend, participants will pitch ideas, form teams, and build creative app prototypes for their community.

Media are also invited to attend the app prototype presentations on Sunday, September 15, at 4 p.m. when teams will demo their prototypes for a chance to win some great prizes, including a chance to pitch at the upcoming Invest Atlantic Conference on September 25, 2013.
