Trio to face firearms charges following DUI incident

Police have laid firearms charges against three people in relation to an incident in Halifax this weekend.

On December 2, at approximately 8:25 a.m., police responded toa report of an impaired driver in the area of the 1000 block of Barrington Street. Officers located the suspect vehicle, which had two flat tires, and activated their emergency equipment. The driver continued for a short distance before pulling into a parking lot. Officers observed signs of impairment and arrested the driver.  Officers also received information that two men, who were passengers in the vehicle, had entered a nearby store and were in possession of a firearm. Officers arrested the men and seized a loaded firearm and ammunition.

A 21-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man are all scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a firearm without a license
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm in a vehicle

The 20-year-old man is also facing charges of possession of a firearm contrary to a court order.    

The 21-year-old woman is also facing charges of impaired operation of a conveyance by drug.
