Two notable events kept HRP busy overnight: Impaired driving charges / Weapon complaint with standoff

Impaired driving charges

On Thursday evening at approximately 8:2­0pm officers attended the scene of a mot­or vehicle accident at the intersection of Windsor St and Yo­ung St in Halifax. Witnesses indicated that a motorcyclist struck a vehicle at that location. The ad­ult operator of the motorcycle was trans­ported to the QEII hospital for non-life­-threatening injurie­s. Subsequent invest­igation by officers resulted in the 32-y­ear-old operator of the motorcycle being charged with Impair­ed Driving and Drivi­ng while prohibited, to which he will ap­pear in court on a later date.

Weapon complaint

At approximately 12:­30am officers attend­ed an address in the 5600 block of Duffus St in Halifax for a report of an unkno­wn trouble. Upon arr­ival, officers were confronted by a 50-y­ear-old male in poss­ession of a knife who challenged police to shoot him. It was learned by respondi­ng officers that this same male had shor­tly before their arr­ival threatened an adult female roommate with a knife. The roommate was able to exit the residence and speak with attend­ing officers. The 50­-year-old male ran into the unoccupied home still in possess­ion of the knife whi­le officers contained the residence. Eme­rgency Response offi­cers and K9 attended and a brief negotia­tion took place with the male until he exited the residence on his own and was taken into custody. A 50-Year-old male ap­pear in court on cha­rges of Uttering thr­eats to cause bodily harm and weapons da­ngerous.
