Upcoming event at Point Pleasant Park – Shilling Ceremony

Wednesday, May 24, 2017 (Halifax, NS) – Since 1866, residents of the Halifax Regional Municipality have leased Point Pleasant Park from the British Crown for an annual rent of a shilling – a former British coin worth about eight cents by today’s standards.

This year the municipality is celebrating this historic rent payment with a Shilling Ceremony that will take place adjacent to the Gatekeeper’s Lodge at 5718 Point Pleasant Dr. at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 28, 2017.

Deputy Mayor Steve Craig will represent the municipality and will present the shilling to our representative of Queen Elizabeth II, His Honour Brigadier-General The Honourable J.J. Grant, CMM,ONS,CD (Ret’d) Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, and Mrs. Grant.

The Point Pleasant Park Advisory Committee’s mandate is to protect and to work with staff, to maintain these natural forests of the 75 hectares of woodlands for the enjoyment of residents and their visitors from around the world.
