Update: RCMP are on scene of a serious collision on highway 103, Mahone Bay, N.S.

Lunenburg County RCMP have charged a man with impaired driving following the head-on collision on Highway 103 yesterday. At around 5:40 p.m., RCMP, Blockhouse and Mahone Bay Fire Departments and Emergency Health Services (EHS) responded to a two-car collision between Exits 10 and 11.

At around 5:40 p.m., RCMP, Blockhouse and Mahone Bay Fire Departments and Emergency Health Services (EHS) responded to a two-car collision between Exits 10 and 11.

Preliminary investigation determined that a green Ford Escape traveling westbound crashed head-on with a Mazda car. The 40-year-old male driver of the Ford vehicle was taken to the South Shore Regional hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was released into the custody of the RCMP. The 26-year-old female driver of the Mazda vehicle was also transported to the South Shore Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both were released from hospital.

The driver of the Ford, a Watford man, was taken to the Cookville RCMP Detachment where he provided breath samples. He was released from custody and will be appearing in Bridgewater Provincial Court on September 3rd, 2014 to face charges of Impaired Driving. An RCMP collision analyst has been called in to assist and the cause of the collision remains under investigation with the Lunenburg County RCMP.
