The Criminal Code charge against an officer with Halifax Regional
Police has been withdrawn.
 
On December 9, 2011 Halifax Regional Police issued a media release
concerning Constable Ashley Lewis being charged with assault. The charge
stemmed from an incident on December 4 that was investigated by RCMP
Enfield Detachment. Last month, the charge of assault was withdrawn by
the Crown Attorney in Shubenacadie Provincial Court.
 
Constable Lewis, who had been placed on administrative duties, was
returned to active duty once the charge was withdrawn.

A Halifax Regional Police Officer faces a criminal charge as a result
of an incident that occurred in Enfield.
 
On December 4 at 8:30 a.m., RCMP Enfield Detachment responded to an
unwanted person call involving an off-duty officer and a woman known to
him. As a result of the investigation conducted by the RCMP, charges
were laid against the officer.
 
Twenty-nine-year old Constable Ashley Lewis, who has been with the
department for 18 months, will appear in Shubenacadie Provincial Court
on December 19, 2011, to face a charge of assault. Constable Lewis has
been placed on administrative duties pending the outcome of this
matter.
