An ad in today’s Chronicle Herald indicates that Real estate brokerage CRBE is now accepting letters of intent from interested buyers looking to snap up 2438 Gottingen Street, the female retirement residence known as Victoria Hall.

Built in 1885, the three-floor, 70-room North End Halifax landmark – and provincially registered heritage property – has long been devoted to providing affordable rents to elderly ladies.

The Board of Trustees for the Victoria Hall Trust, the non-profit which controls the property, announced last November that the residence would close this year and its remaining residents, depending on their needs, would be moved to the Shannex-run Caritas Residence in Rockingham or to provincial nursing homes. Once the transition was complete, the building would be sold, media reports said.

Well-known auction house Crowther & Brayley is scheduled to sell off 300 lots from the historic property next Saturday, April 20.
