Victoria Road Interchange to Circ closed Sunday

Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB)  will close the Victoria Road Interchange Sunday Dec. 4 to remove four 20-metre light standards.

The move comes one year after a similar light standard collapsed during a windstorm. Inspections subsequently found seven other standards with evidence of fatigue. They were removed within days.

The four light standards to be removed Sunday have been inspected following wind events with no indication of trouble. However, given the increasing number of wind events, and the time required for constant inspection, HHB decided it was prudent to remove the existing standards.

The removal effort will close the Victoria Road Interchange beginning at 6am Sunday with work expected to continue until Monday at 5:30 am. The MacKay Bridge will remain open and access from Highway 111 will remain largely unaffected. Detours will be in place for the other roads feeding into the interchange.
