The provincial government announced Wednesday that there will be changes coming to the Municipal Elections Act. Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, John MacDonell, told members of the media that "the proposed changes will ensure that as many eligible voters as possible can participate in the election process."
The new changes will be presented to the House of Assembly and include allowing students to vote in the riding where they are attending school rather than where their family home is. The move will hopefully facilitate a greater voter turnout among young people at the polls. Another amendment to the act will allow for greater access to electronic voting.
Haligonia's Antoine Abawajy filmed the announcement to bring us the details.
