Vital community library and recreation centre to remain closed for months after flooding

Details via release:

The Dartmouth North Community Centre and Dartmouth North Public Library are closed until further notice after a significant flood on March 6, 2025 caused extensive damage to the facility. The flooding, caused by two separate sewer backups, impacted both recreation programming and library operations.

The Halifax Regional Municipality has confirmed that remediation and restoration work is ongoing and is expected to take several months to complete.

In the meantime, all Halifax Parks & Recreation summer programs originally scheduled at the centre will be relocated to either the Gerald B. Gray Arena or a nearby Halifax Regional Centre for Education school. Program participants will be contacted directly using the contact information in their myREC accounts.

Halifax Public Libraries is working to set up a temporary service location using a portable unit on the library site. Additional information about this service will be shared in the coming weeks.

Free public Wi-Fi remains available outside the facility, although access may be limited during construction. Library users are encouraged to use the E-Library, which provides 24/7 access to digital books, audiobooks, newspapers, and other resources. Patrons can also change their holds pick-up location to another library branch.
