Water Week Reminds Us to Protect Important Resource

This week, Environment Minister Randy Delorey is encouraging all Nova Scotians to think about their water use and the sources of water.

March 17-22 is Canada Water Week, which is focused on the importance of our watersheds.

Items that enter Nova Scotia’s lakes and rivers could end up in the Atlantic Ocean, and it can affect water quality and habitats for birds, fish and animals.

“Pollution in one water source affects the safety and supply of clean water for all of us,” said Mr. Delorey. “We all have a role to play in protecting and conserving our water resources.”

The Department of Environment has a mandate to prevent pollution of our ground and surface water, as well as ensure that drinking water is clean and safe.

If you see a spill or other pollution that poses a threat to a water source, please contact your nearest department office. Contact information for the offices is at https://novascotia.ca/nse/dept/division.emc.asp .
