Weekend Wrap-up: July 20-21, 2013

1. Set sail for Georges Island for a weekend full of family fun! Picnic in the Past, presented by Select Nova Scotia, is your chance to experience Georges Island, a unique National Historic Site.

Bring the whole family to enjoy local food, take a guided tour of the tunnels, and learn about Halifax in 1812. 2. There are 2 really neat ships in the harbour this weekend! MS Turanor PlanetSolar, the largest solar powered ship in the world and the American Tall Ship USCGC Eagle! 3.The 10th Annual Northern Lights Lantern Festival is on Saturday! The Northern Lights Lantern Festival Society exists to create a community-planned, environmentally friendly, intergenerational, culturally diverse, accessible event that celebrates and enhances the profile and image of the North End of Halifax. There will be face painting, lantern making, a free BBQ and more! 4. It’s the Atlantic Film Festival’s “Summer of Spielberg” and it kicks off with a showing of E.T. Showing on Halifax Waterfront’s Tall Ship Quay, Bring your blankets, bring chairs, bring your family and friends! This show starts at 9:30 tonight but the rain day is for Saturday and will be announced by 4:00 this afternoon. 5. Have you been to the Discovery Centre to check out their latest exhibit Tanked! yet? Dive into the Atlantic Ocean without getting wet at TANKED! Visitors will be amazed by the variety of marine species from the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to four salt-water tanks, kids can get their hands wet at the touch tanks and meet an assortment of Atlantic invertebrates and other species.
