Weekend Wrap-up March 17-19

Unique events abound all around! Dogs from near and far mushing at Martock, family yoga being practiced in North End Halifax, magic performed at various locations, and rooms escaped from a mysterious building on Barrington.
1. Prepare for some dog sledding delights! This weekend, the East Coast Mushing Jamboree is taking place at ONTREE Fun & Adventure Park at Ski Martock. If you’re not already registered (go to eastcoastmushing.com to do so), Saturday is the best day for spectating; watch the dogs in action doing canicross, skijoring, and kicksledding. Also, there is a special dog sledding experience lined up for the kiddos!
2. Encourage mindfulness and practice yoga with your child at Grow A Lotus Yoga on Leeds Street in Halifax. This class on Saturday from 1-2:30 will is a combination of story, movement, breath awareness, partner poses, and games…most importantly it is an opportunity for you to have fun while creatively connecting together! It’s $25 per family—typically a parent and 1-2 children and each family yoga class includes a craft session that inspires a sense of calmness and creativity. Please register online at www.growalotus.com.
3. Magician Tim Gavel is doing a tour of Halifax Public Libraries! You won’t believe your eyes when you see the cool tricks Tim has up his sleeve. Prepare to be amazed! On Thursday morning at 10:30, he’s at Keshen Goodman, in the afternoon on Thursday, he heads out to Hubbards for 3, Friday at 1:30, meet him at the Halifax North location, and on Sunday at 2:30, the show will go on at Halifax Central. The show is not only flabbergasting, but free
4. If you’re littles are not so little anymore, escort them to test their Houdini skills at Captured Escape Rooms. These nifty, themed, interactive live games are designed for 13 and older, but if you’re interested in bringing a group of younger players or letting a couple tag along with you and your friends, arrangements can be made for some all ages fun! One adult per room is required to supervise and provide some guidance. It’s always best to call 902-422-2224 ahead of time and check for availability. These mysterious game rooms are open Thursday-Sunday evenings and $23.50 is a steal of a deal if you’re trying to get a certain pre-teen to think you’re cool again.
