A quick roundup of what's open, and what's closed on Remembrance Day 2010.

Stores, as well as banks and government offices are closed for Remembrance Day.  Some outlets such as Shoppers Drug Mart and convenience stores may be open, be sure to call ahead.

Any HRM residents whose normal curbside collection day is Thursday should put their garbage or green bins out on Saturday, Nov. 13.

HRM Releases:
Remembrance Day Solid Waste Collection Notice

(Tuesday, November 9, 2010) –  HRM would like to remind residents that
there will be no regular municipal solid waste collection services
provided on Remembrance Day, Thursday, November 11, 2010.  Curbside
collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for
Thursday, November 11th will occur the following Saturday, November
13th.

The Otter Lake Waste Processing and Disposal Facilities, the two
Composting Facilities and the HRM Recycling Plant will be closed on
Remembrance Day, Thursday, November 11th but will be open on Saturday,
November 13th with regular operating hours.

The HRM’s residential Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot will be
closed Saturday, November 13th but will be open Saturday, November 20th
from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

(Wednesday, November 10, 2010) Halifax, NS – Metro Transit conventional
buses, Access-A-Buses and the Alderney Ferry will operate on holiday
schedules on Remembrance Day, November 11, 2010.

The Alderney Ferry will provide 30-minute service with the first boat
departing Dartmouth at 7:30 am, an hour later than usual. The last
vessel will depart Halifax at 11:45 pm.

There will be no Woodside Ferry service, MetroLink, MetroX, or
Community Transit bus service in operation on Remembrance Day.

Metro Transit buses will pause on Remembrance Day at 11:00 am to
observe a moment of silence in honour of Canada’s war veterans and
fallen peace officers.

Metro Transit bus operators will pull any in-service buses to the side
of the road where possible and pay tribute to our war veterans with our
passengers, “Lest we forget”.
