What’s open, what’s closed November 11th Remembrance Day 2022

Most stores and businesses will be shut down, including grocery stores and malls. Gateway Meat Market in Dartmouth will be open.

NSLC will also be closed, but private liquor stores will be open including Harvest Wines, Rockhead Brewery and Westside Beer Wine & Spirits.

Pharmacies will be open, banks will be closed.

No mail collection or delivery, but post offices in retail locations (drug stores for example) may be open.

Street parking will be free.

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours
No municipal garbage, organics or recyclables collection services will take place on Remembrance Day. The curbside collection of garbage, organics or recyclables normally scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11, will occur instead on Saturday, Nov. 12. Residents are reminded that collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m. to ensure collection, materials may be placed curbside the evening prior to collection day.

The Household Special Waste (HSW) Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 12, but will be open on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax recycling facility and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, but will be open for regular hours on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Halifax Transit Bus and Ferry Services
In recognition of those who serve our country, Halifax Transit is offering free transit to all veterans and military personnel, and their accompanying family members, on Remembrance Day. On Friday, Nov. 11, veterans and military personnel wishing to use the free transit service are asked to be in uniform or display their military identification upon boarding. This offer extends to Halifax Transit bus and harbour ferry services, as well as registered Access-A-Bus users. Residents are also advised that buses will pull over at 11 a.m. to pause for three minutes of silence, to honour and remember the men and women who serve and continue to serve.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services

Most municipally-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11. Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information. Contact information for municipally-operated facilities is online.

Parking
On-street paid parking will be free on Friday, Nov. 11. Motorists are reminded to abide by other posted signage, including no stopping, accessible parking spaces and no parking zones.

Customer Contact Centres
The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours on Friday, Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, and will reopen for regular business hours on Monday, Nov. 14.
