Yarmouth man charged with several offences following assault

Release:

A man has been charged with a number of offences following a weekend incident that began when the RCMP was dispatched to a disturbance call on Argyle St. in Yarmouth.

The call was dispatched at 7:45 p.m. and once police arrived on scene they found the suspect, who had assaulted another man. The victim was laying on the ground, unresponsive, with head wounds. The suspect was arrested inside a home, and while the police officer was handcuffing him, the suspect tried to remove the defensive baton from the police officer’s duty belt. The RCMP officer was able to secure the suspect in handcuffs and retain his baton.

Once in custody, the suspect threatened the police officers present, damaged the inside of the police vehicle, and then threatened to kill a member of the provincial court staff. He was held in custody overnight and remanded. The victim was treated at the scene.

Jason Arnold Wayne Middleton, 48, of Yarmouth, has been charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Conditions
  • Fail to Comply with Probation
  • Uttering Threats (x 2)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Attempting to Disarm a Police Officer
  • Mischief
  • Assault
  • Intimidation of a Justice System Participant

Middleton is being held in custody and returns to court on September 14. The investigation is ongoing.
