Your Ideas – Your Vote; attend voter engagement sessions April 11

Wednesday, April 8, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting residents to participate in voter engagement sessions being held this Saturday, as part of an ongoing citizen engagement process intended to increase voter participation in future municipal elections.

In the last municipal election held in 2012, 37 per cent of registered voters cast a ballot to elect the Mayor and 16 district Councillors.

The municipality is seeking feedback and ideas on what can be done to increase voter engagement in the 2016 municipal election and beyond.

Join Halifax Elections Office staff at one or all of three interactive sessions on municipal voting being held this weekend as follows:

When: Saturday, April 11
Where: Halifax Central Library, 5440 Spring Garden Road, Room 301

Session Overview:

Youth and New Voters:                          11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Accessibility and Voting Methods:          12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m.

How can voters engage in an election:   2 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.
