With the New Year upon us, Halifax District RCMP and Halifax Regional Police would like to remind all New Year’s Eve revellers of the importance of planning a safe drive home if they are celebrating tonight.
Police know that many citizens will be attending house parties, social clubs and bars tonight to ring in the New Year. Police are delivering a simple message: Make your plans to get home safe before you start drinking. Select a designated driver, schedule a cab, stay at a friend’s house or take city transit, where available.
Social media users using the #thinkfirst hashtag can share how they will be planning ahead to get home safe.
Police will be conducting random check points throughout the city and all outlying areas targeting impaired drivers including those who are driving under the influence of drugs.
Impaired drivers can be on our streets and roadways at all hours of the day so police are asking for your help to identify and apprehended them. Here is what you can do if you think you see a potential impaired driver:
