Iconic Chickenburger now open at the Airport

Halifax, N.S. – Travellers and visitors to Halifax Stanfield International Airport can now travel back in time to the 1950’s. Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) today announced that The Chickenburger restaurant – an iconic fifties-style diner – is now open.
 
“We are delighted to welcome The Chickenburger to the airport community,” says Tom Ruth, HIAA President & CEO. “Having this iconic eatery as part of the airport landscape means travellers, visitors and staff can enjoy a unique dining experience, which, for many, will bring back fond memories of another era,” he says. “And, we hope the nostalgic ambiance of The Chickenburger will help create new travel memories.”
 
The Chickenburger is operated by HMSHost who is the master food and beverage concessionaire at Halifax Stanfield. HMSHost currently operates several restaurants at HSIA including Maritime Ale House, Beaches Café, Legends Nova Scotia Lounge, Spirit of the Maritimes, and both Starbucks Coffee outlets. 
 
“Eating at The Chickenburger will be a one-of-a-kind airport dining experience,” says Michael Fetchko, Senior Director, Business Development, HMSHost. “We are excited to bring such an historic eating establishment – with its authentic local flavour – to the airport setting, and it is a terrific complement to our existing restaurants,” he says.
 
HMSHost entered into the first franchise agreement for The Chickenburger.
 
“We’re thrilled to open a second Chickenburger,” says Mickey MacDonald, owner and CEO of The Chickenburger. “What better place to get transported to another time than at the airport,” he says. “Now so many more people – the young and the young at heart – can enjoy a Halifax tradition that’s been part of our history for more than 70 years,”
 
Two other new concessions recently opened at the airport. A second Starbucks location, now open in the domestic arrivals area, is also operated by HMSHost. As well, Clearwater Seafood has set up a convenient kiosk on the departures level where passengers can place an order for lobster or seafood after they clear security. It will then be packed for travel and brought to them.
