Acadia Street Fire – Update

Investigators with the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit have completed the investigation into a fatal fire that occurred last month in Halifax.

On October 24 at 2:56 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the 3600 block of Acadia Street for a house on fire. Firefighters entered the structure and removed 92-year-old Daniel Maclennan. He was transported to hospital by EHS where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy was performed by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service and the cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation. A 49-year-old man was arrested later that evening in relation to the fire and he was later released without charges.

Investigators with the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit, with the assistance of fire investigators with HRM Fire and Emergency, have determined that the fire started in the kitchen of the residence and it has been determined to be accidental.
