April, 2011 – Halifax, NS (For Immediate Release) Music for Good is producing an ‘AID IN JAPAN’ concert on 24th April 2011. Local musicians have offered their time and talent to raise awareness and funds for Oxfam Canada to help aid the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Sponsors include Music for Good, The Seahorse Tavern, Spincount, The Printing House, Oxfam, Long and McQuade, Propellor Brewery and haligonia.ca.

On the 11th March 2011 a deadly 8.9 earthquake struck Japan, one of the largest earthquakes in the country’s history. A massive 23-foot tsunami also hit the coast killing almost 11,000 and injuring nearly 3,000 people. Over 16,000 are still missing across eighteen prefectures and over 125,000 buildings damaged or destroyed. Oxfam Canada has responded by requesting for donations which will be received by several partner organizations: Japan Organization for International Cooperation on Family Planning (JOICFP) assisting mothers and babies, Japan Women’s Shelter network, Single Mother’s Forum, Child support, Relief Headquarter for Persons with Disabilities-which established 24-hour hotlines, disseminating information, providing support to shelters, and peer counselling, and FACIL – which provides information to an estimated 40,000 non-Japanese speakers living in affected areas.

The musicians who are supporting ’AID IN JAPAN’ include: Alice Stops Time, Andrew Hunter, Ben Caplan, Chloe Jones,Electric City Underground, George Woodhouse, Kristina Trites, Stone Mary, The Light Brights, The Retrospect, Tommy Green Jr, and Two Foot Chop. The show will be hosted by halifamous Gleena Brown and Craig Layton.
