At 2:45 a.m. [Monday] morning, Central Division Patrol Officers arrested two men in relation to thefts from vehicles in an underground parkade located in the 2300 block of Brunswick Street and on Lemarchant Street. The men, who were first observed on Victory Lane, ran from police but were quickly apprehended on Gottingen Street.

Twenty-three-year-old Christian Bennett and 28-year-old Garrett White both of Halifax were scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today. Both men face charges of break and entering, mischief and possession of break and enter tools. Bennett is also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and breaching conditions.

Thefts from vehicles are generally a crime of opportunity, with the sight of valuables being a temptation for would-be thieves. It is recommended that such items not be left in your car. If it is absolutely necessary to leave items in your car, they should be locked in the trunk out of plain view before arriving at your destination. Anyone observing suspicious activity in or around parked vehicles should report it to police immediately at 490-5016.
