Film Fund Increased for 2018-19

The Nova Scotia Film and Television Production Incentive Fund is increasing by $6 million to meet greater demand and local spending from the sector and will now be $26 million for 2018-19.

“This is another sign of strong activity from film and television producers, which is good news for the province’s creative economy,” said Minister of Business Geoff MacLellan. “The fund supports our interest in building a competitive sector and it provides government with the ability to be more transparent and monitor, forecast and adjust the funding available as long as it’s within our fiscal plan.”

The Film and Television Production Incentive Fund was introduced in July 2015, designed to provide accountability and more direct economic benefits for Nova Scotians. It provides between 25 and 32 per cent of eligible costs such as labour, goods and services purchased from a Nova Scotia-based supplier.

Administered by Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), the fund provides specific requirements for the use of Nova Scotia talent and public reporting of all approved spending. The fund model allows government to budget annual investments in film based on fiscal ability.

So far in the 2018-19 fiscal year, NSBI has announced 43 productions, providing $18.4 million in funding commitments. The full list of approved productions under the fund can be found at http://novascotiabusiness.com/news/film-productions-announced .
