Monday, September 9, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – The Hopscotch Urban Arts Festival is back – bigger and better than ever.
This year’s festival will take on September 27 and 28 and will be headlined by the Chicago/Detroit based hip hop duo The Cool Kids.
In addition to big names like The Cool Kids, the festival will focus on showcasing local hip hop performers like Quake, Kayo and The Caravan w/DJ IV, as well as Halifax hip hop pioneers, Universal Soul.
This year, performances will be scheduled on both sides of the harbour. A visual art component of the festival will take place at The Cove in Dartmouth along with live painting at several of the events.
The 2013 event will see a massive cipher featuring over 25 of Nova Scotia’s best emcees, beatboxers, and DJs. The official Saturday night after party will feature Halifax’s first-ever Silent Disco. Rather than your standard dance club with music played over a speaker system, participants will listen to music via wireless headphones, allowing each individual to experience their own personal dance club experience. Several DJ’s will ‘compete’ for listener’s attention adding an additional element to the night.
The festival will also include a breakdancing component with Roast The Coast, a large bboy and bgirl breakdancing competition, and performances by The Woods.
