This evening at 7:07 p.m., a Halifax Regional Police Patrol Officer shot a male suspect who was armed with a weapon.

Plain clothes officers were investigating a matter on Gaston Road involving this man when he produced a weapon. He then fled the scene on foot with plain clothes officers in pursuit, however, he eluded them in a wooded area. Patrol Officers who responded as back-up located the man in a field behind Prince Arthur Junior High. During the course of trying to arrest him, an officer shot the man, who is believed to be in his thirties.

EHS was called and transported the man, who was conscious and breathing at the time, to hospital for treatment of what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The officers were not harmed during this incident.

This matter has been referred to the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) for investigation. Due to this matter being referred to SiRT, HRP is unable to disclose further details.
