Community is a wonderful thing.  Coastal communities in particular are the highlight of this little story…

I met Ian Foster at the ECMAs in Cornerbrook this February.  He’s from St. John’s, which is a fair hike from Cornerbrook, but even further from Eastern Passage.

Ian told me he’d be over this way on a summer tour, and could I possibly host a house concert for him while he was in the Halifax area.  Since he’s a good guy I agreed, but as it got closer to his arrival I changed the plans.  Cuz I’m just like that.

Whenever I am able, I combine fundraising for animal welfare into my events.  So we setup a little “house concert” at the Passage Ale House in Fisherman’s Cove, Eastern Passage, and had Ian perform to raise funds for Pierre’s Alley Cats.

So, last Sunday, our little coastal community welcomed this traveling minstrel from another coastal community, and a good time was had by all.

We were able to provide a venue for Ian to make a little money for his travels and win new friends and fans, and we also made some money for the cause.  Win win for all of us, and a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Our audience was mostly comprised of people who’d never heard Ian’s music before, and they were very impressed, and Ian sold lots of CDs too.

Ian is quite an accomplished songwriter, and quite well known at home in Newfoundland, so it’s time for him to take his music to the rest of Canada.

We are so thrilled we could be a part of his cross country tour.  Glad to have made friends.  Happy to raise funds and awareness for the homeless kitties.  Grateful for beautiful music, and rich community spirit.

Come back anytime Ian!
