Join Me as I Celebrate 5 years as Common Cents Mom

Hard to believe that Common Cents Mom is five. I had been blogging on different blogs for 7 years when I decided to create this one as a way of giving back, and sharing my story of saving, earning and giving.

When I started this blog I lived in rural Nova Scotia and worked for Comcast, hard to think that 5 years later I am now living in Toronto and working in the world that is Social Media.

I have met so many wonderful people along the way, many I have been blessed to call friends.

I am so grateful for them.

The story of this blog, can be summed up in the many opportunities that have come because of it. Being a blogger has blessed my life.

It was by having this blog and a social media presence I have gotten to meet so many wonderful friends. I was even blessed to find some amazing mentors and job opportunities because of being Common Cents Mom.

My first were money mentors in form of Preet Banerjee and Gail Vazoxlade. The advice and expertise of these two have blessed my life in many ways over the last five years. Who knew 5 years later I have now sat down and had conversations with both, and I have been blessed to have them as part of the #cdnmoney community on Twitter as well. Preet is also the first person to pay for me to write, when I did a 4 part series on bankruptcy for his blog.

Then came my job with Shes Connected, after being selected for the Shes Connected Conference two years in a row, when I found myself job hunting. Donna Marie Atonidais hired me for a role that had me learning many skills. I often refer to it as Social Media boot camp, but it gave me skills that I use every day.

Then there is the wonderful SOBcon community and if you do not follow this hashtag (#sobcon) on Twittter may I suggest you do. Some of the smartest people in the business of social media share on it. I was blessed to meet and dine with Liz Strauss(cofounder of Sobcon), one of the smartest women I know twice last year. I think that is a privilege many would and should pay for. Three years ago I was blessed to win my way to Sobcon with this blog post, but due to illness I sent Scott Stratten in my place. I continue to be a fly on the way every year when they live stream. It is still the one conference for bloggers I want to get to.

Then there are the Mom Bloggers that I now call friends. That list is rather long but I am more then grateful for so many of them: Andrea, Shannon, Jeanine, Wendy, Trina, Lisa, Annie, Julie, Kim, Christine, Mara, and so many more.

Then there are the ladies online who make me smile by simply showing up with their comments, love and support.  I smile every time I see them on line. Thank you Marcy, Diane, Jane and Cate.

Over the last 5 years my daughter has grown from childhood to tween, to teen. Thank you for being part of her journey too.

To celebrate being 5 we are going to have a very special #cdnmoney chat on Wednesday March 13th, 7-8pm EST, and expect a few surprises. Please do join in as you can. The official topic is share your favorite money tip.

I want to storify these, even better if you can send me a picture of you sharing your favorite money tip I want to make a video that I will share.

Hope to see you as we celebrate 5 years!!
