Man arrested for carrying a firearm and attempted robbery kept HRP busy last night

At Approximately 700pm Central Division officers were called to the intersection of Hollis St/Bishop St as a pedestrian had called police stating they saw a male putting a firearm into his waistband.  Officers quickly located a male matching the description nearby inside Mezza Restaurant and arrested the man without incident.  Initially, officers believe the recovered item to be a replica, however it needs to be sent for further testing.

 

Officers arrested a 27 year old Halifax man and charged him with possession weapons dangerous and carrying concealed weapon.  He was released on a Promise to Appear and Undertaking.   He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.

Shortly before 1000pm officers were called to the area of Spring Garden Road and Carleton Street as a 27 year old man states he was approached by another man who asked him for cash.  When the victim said he didn’t have any money the man punched him in the face and ran away.  The suspect is described as white, wearing a ragged hat,salt and pepper scraggly hair squinty eyes and a plaid shirt.  He has not been located and the file has been sent to the General Investigative Section for further investigation.
