Labour and Advanced Education Minister Kelly Regan appointed veteran mediator Bruce Outhouse today, March 19, to help in contract negotiations between Capital District Health Authority and the NSGEU Local 97, which represents 2,500 registered nurses.

“Mr. Outhouse is an experienced mediator, arbitrator and lawyer who has extensive experience dealing with these types of disputes at both the regional and national levels,” said Ms. Regan. “A mediator always brings fresh perspective on the issues and I’m hopeful that Mr. Outhouse will be able to help the parties come to an agreement.”

Mr. Outhouse’s appointment comes after several attempts at private negotiations and conciliation failed, and talks broke off on March 17. Mediation will begin Thursday, March 20.

Mediation is a non-binding tool used to help parties reach a settlement.
