Municipality celebrating Recreation Day with free activities

Get active and have fun this weekend and next, by taking part in some of the free activities the Halifax Regional Municipality is offering at many of its facilities to celebrate Recreation Day.

June is Recreation Month in Nova Scotia. The municipality has made it a priority to encourage healthy communities across the Halifax region. That means building safe, liveable and accessible neighbourhoods where residents have access to facilities and open spaces that foster connectivity and physical activity. The following activities will take place:

Saturday, June 2:

  • Sackville Sports Stadium will be offering free, all-day recreational services including public swims, access to the fitness centre, and access to group classes. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be an inflatable bouncy castle, climbing rock wall, bungee jumping, face painting, trail walks, mini workouts with a trainer, giveaways, and much more.

Sunday, June 3:

  • Findlay Community Centre as part ofDartmouth Switch, will offer a climbing wall, catch-and-release fishing, bikes, scooters, skateboards, drumming, and more, from noon to 4 p.m.

Saturday, June 9:

  • The Emera Oval will house an art station, an interactive archery challenge, Zumba, drum fit, seed planting, inflatables and more, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Regular summer activities will also be available after 2 p.m. including cycling, roller blading, and skateboarding.
