My Husband is on a Mancation – Day??? I Don’t Even Know

I’ve missed a few days, I know. I’m sorry. I just couldn’t keep up with it all. The last time I checked in was last Thursday… seems like a few Olympic gold medals ago.

Oh wait, it was

The short story? On Friday, a party broke out during a hockey game and I truly earned Mother of the Year status by springing the kids from school. Saturday, was crazy busy and I realized my little girl is growing up. Sunday saw an early start and end with teaching the girls how to make a bed.

The long story? Friday morning, I went to work and then decided to close my home office for the afternoon. I mean, come on, the rest of Canada was shut down to watch the Canada vs. USA semi final game so I don’t think anyone noticed that Jolt PR was too. On the spur of the moment I decided to spring the kids from school at lunch (Mother of the Year) and take them to my sister’s to watch the game with some of the fam.

Then, all of a sudden, a party broke out. Well what did you expect when I was gathered with some of my favourite people in the world, there was hockey, wine, pizza… and hubby is still in Mexico on his mancation. What a day! Good times in the Maritimes.

I apparently decided to dress as Sponge Bob Squarepants for the game. Oh well, it was worth it to wear a jersey signed by my boyfriend, Sidney Crosby. (PS. My mother called me a cougar. I didn’t even know she knew what that meant!)

So, needless to say, after all the hockey excitement I was a little “tired” on Saturday but had to rise early to take my daughter to the babysitter’s course. How did that happen? How did my baby become old enough to learn how to take care of other people’s babies. She did inform me that she will charge us a discounted rate of $1.00 an hour to babysit her sister. Family discount!

After thinking I’d have to go to Mexico to identify hubby’s body, I finally heard from him. The weather is great, he’s having fun… fan-freaking-tastic. Me too! So I planned an exciting Saturday night… the girls went to my sister’s for a sleepover and I planned a wild night. I spent the night in bed with the dog crying over all the Olympic moments. I started watching TV at 9pm and was asleep by 10pm.

Today started early with the gold medal hockey game on at 8am AST. After a great brunch at my sister’s house (thanks, Bessus) we were a tense and quiet crowd. We had planned on mimosas but after Friday’s indulgence, we decided that coffee was the way to go. Needless to say, we were pleased with the outcome. What a great Olympics for our Canadian athletes. But now what am I going to do for the rest of February?

So now it’s time to look to the week ahead. Ugh. It’s another busy one. It’s time for hubby to come home. A week away is too long. Plus, the laundry is REALLY piling up around here…

Cheers to a good week for all of us! I only have to keep the kids fed and clean until Thursday, then the drill Sargent will be back to keep us all in line. And I’m glad about that…

PS. Wacko, the dog, only ate one box of kleenex, a sleeve of graham crackers and toured the neighbourhood once in the last three days. I think we’re on a roll!
