Police Charge Two Men with Attempt Break and Enter and Uttering Threats

From HRPD:
Halifax Regional Police has charged two men in relation to an attempt break and enter which occurred Friday on Herbert Street in Dartmouth.

At 1:50 a.m. a male resident called police in relation to two individuals on his doorstep who were looking to speak to other residents of the home. While the suspects did not gain access to the home, they attempted to enter the residence through a window and made threats to the man. The complainant also heard several loud popping sounds which he believed may have been shots fired.

Upon police arrival, the two male suspects fled the area on foot.  Both were apprehended by Patrol Officers and the K-9 Unit on Acadia Street. A search of the area resulted in the recovery of a knife. Officers also recovered a stolen motor vehicle on Herbert Street.

Police have been on-scene investigating this incident throughout the day. Officers in the Forensic Identification Section could not find any evidence of shots fired. Another search of the general area resulted in the recovery of a second knife. It has yet to be determined how the knives or the stolen motor vehicle relate to the incident.

The accused, both 27 and of Dartmouth, were released this evening. They will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date to each face charges of attempt break and enter and uttering threats.

Officers do not believe this was a random incident and the investigation continues. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact officers at 490-5016 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.
