Police are investigating an assault with a weapon which occurred Wednesday afternoon in Dartmouth.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., police responded to an assault on a man outside a business in the 300 block of Portland Street. Upon arrival, officers found a man lying on the sidewalk suffering from head injuries. He was transported to hospital for treatment of what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers have since determined the victim had agreed to speak to two men in an alleyway and they then began to assault him with metal pipes. The suspects are described as white men in their early twenties, both with a slim to medium build and 5’10” to 6’ in height. One was wearing a cream coloured jacket, white ball cap and jeans, and the other was wearing a black leather jacket, black ball cap and jeans. They were last seen fleeing on foot across Portland Street and took a path which leads from Lakefront Road to Joffre Street.
