Police investigate robbery – Halifax / Arson investigation in Bedford

Attempted Robbery – Halifax

6:10 p.m., 3 September, Halifax Regional Police responded to a Robbery (Attempted) at Jungle Jims Restaurant, 189 Chain Lake Drive Halifax.​ ​

A caller reported a male attempted to rob him using a bottle as a weapon.​ The suspect was tackled by the caller and nothing was taken.​ The caller was not injured.​ However, the suspect sustained minor non-life threatening injuries during the citizens arrest.

Police attended and arrested a 54 year old male from Harrietsfield.​ The suspect is held for court and facing charges of Robbery and Breach of Recognizance.

 

Arson – Bedford

10:37 p.m.,​ Halifax Regional Police and HRM Fire​ & Emergency responded to a vehicle and structure fire at 20 Angus Morton Drive Halifax.​ Callers reported hearing a loud bang and then observing flames.​ Officers located pickup truck engulfed in flames and a building next to the truck also on fire.​ Witnesses reported a vehicle fleeing the area last seen heading in the direction of Hammonds Plains Road.

11:18 p.m., patrol officers and K9 located the a male suspect with minor non-life threating injuries in a wooded area behind off of Hammonds Plains Road.

Fire Investigators confirmed the fire was intentionally set and the arson investigation has been turned over to police.​ The arson investigation is in the early stages and is ongoing.

Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are investigating.​ A 34 year old male from Hammonds Plains is held for court and is facing charges of Arson and Property Damage over $5000.​
