Halifax Regional Police is investigating an incident of potential food tampering.

On May 23 at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a report that a nail had been found inside a potato at the Atlantic Superstore on Quinpool Road in Halifax. An employee at the store had been sorting through bags of Farmers Market Russet Potatoes, which had been recalled after similar incidents in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and P.E.I., when he made the discovery. The employee turned over the potato, nail and remaining bag of potatoes to police. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

There have been several incidents of potential food tampering reported across the Maritimes. We ask that anyone who finds any foreign metal objects in a potato refrain from throwing out the potato, metal object or the bag it was located in when purchased. Please contact police so the potatoes and related items can be passed along to investigators.
