RCMP investigating several Theft from Motor Vehicle incidents in Eastern Passage, NS

From RCMP:
Friday, October 1, 2010, 2010 Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), NS…Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Halifax District are investigating seven Theft from Motor vehicle incidents that occurred Wednesday, September 29, 2010 overnight into Thursday morning.

Six of the incidents happened in Eastern Passage, NS on Oceanlea Dr., Melrose Cres. , and Wentworth Circle.  The other incident took place on Pratt and Whitney Dr. in Goffs, NS.   The thieves appear to be targeting electronics like GPS units, cell phones, laptops and iPods as well as purses and loose change.   HRM Partners in Policing urge motorists to lock doors and remove all valuables when the vehicle is left unattended.  This includes any gear associated with electronics like GPS holders, cell phone chargers, etc.  If left in plain site, these can serve as indicators that the vehicle may contain electronic equipment.

In many cases, the cost of damage to the vehicle exceeds the value of the stolen item.  Even though a small amount of loose change may not seem like a big loss, the cost of damage might be more significant.

If you have information regarding any of these incidents, you can contact any RCMP office, Halifax Regional Police, or Crime Stoppers anonymously anytime at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or by their Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca Calls to Crime Stoppers are not taped or traced and if police make an arrest and lay charges based on a tip, callers qualify for a cash award from $50 – $2000.
