Rock for Dimes Halifax

We all know that music is a universal language that has the amazing ability to heal and bring people together for a great cause. Rock for Dimes Halifax benefits March of Dimes Canada’s Conductive Education® (CE) Nova Scotia Program, an innovative program that blends elements of education and rehabilitation to improve the independence, mobility and confidence of children with disabilities, and has proven especially beneficial to children with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and developmental apraxia.

On Friday, November 1, 2013, local amateur musicians will take up their instruments to battle for the title of “Halifax’s Best” at Pennzoil presents Rock for Dimes Halifax, a battle of the bands fundraiser. This is the eighth year for the fundraiser. Over $150,000 has been raised to date in Halifax at this annual event.

This year’s costume-musical theme for the “two stages” event will be a tribute to the music of the 1970s. Sophie’s Choice, The Goldilocks Effect, Terminal Road, Red C, Dali Van Gogh and Project 501 will be competing at the event, at the same time showcasing their talents to music industry professionals. Coast Arts and Food Editor Stephanie Johns, Q104’s Anna Zee and musician Rich Aucoin have been tapped as judges. Q104’s Tom B will be pulling double duty as judge and the evening’s MC.

Pennzoil is the presenting sponsor for Rock for Dimes fundraisers in 2013, partnering with March of Dimes Canada to donate $65,000, $15,000 of which will be used to retrofit a vehicle. Pennzoil’s support will help a selected family or individual living with disabilities in Nova Scotia to reclaim their freedom and love of driving.

Vehicle modifications allow people living with disabilities the freedom of mobility, access and community participation that so many of us take for granted – but they can be prohibitively expensive, and out of reach for those with limited or fixed incomes. The funding from Pennzoil and March of Dimes Canada will be given to an individual or family who desperately need a modified vehicle, but cannot afford it on their own. The presentation of the retrofit will be given to the selected recipient at Rock for Dimes Halifax.

Pennzoil is the presenting sponsor. The platinum sponsor is Stewart McKelvey, gold sponsor, McInnes Cooper, silver sponsors, MICCO Companies and Airgo Mobility, additional sponsors, Cunard Centre, Ferguson Music Productions, BMO Bank of Montreal, TD Bank Financial Group, Tour Tech East, Long & McQuade and media sponsors Q104 and The Coast.

Doors will open at 7p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013, at the Cunard Centre, Halifax. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $20 per person, $15 for students. For more information or to order tickets please visit www.rockfordimes.ca/halifax or call 1-800-263-3463 ext. 7380.
