(Thursday, March 29, 2012) – Regional Council has granted permission for sidewalk cafés in the downtown to open as early as April 1st on an ongoing basis. The date was previously set by Council at April 21st.

 

This year, because applications for permits must still be processed, it’s likely that cafés will open during the second week of April. Bar and restaurant owners are responsible to notify HRM staff to apply for permits and to make arrangements for the removal of parking meters and/or sign posts adjacent to their café sites.

 

The closing date for sidewalk cafés remains October 31st as stipulated by the Sidewalk Café Policy.
