So Long, Farewell

So Long, Farewell
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good night.
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.
So long, farewell auf wiedersehen, adieu
Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu.
What else can we say, it’s been a fantastic ride and we’ve loved every minute of our time with Urban Parent. Sharing in the fun of parenthood with you, our loyal fans and followers, has given us more than we could have ever imaged when we first took over this business nearly 6 years ago.
We had high hopes that this, our last note to you, would have included an announcement and introduction of a new owner for Urban Parent but unfortunately, after 7 months of searching and many discussions with interested parties, we were unable to find someone. It’s a sad day for us and this is certainly not how we expected to leave you. That said, please accept our apologies as we have made the very tough, but seemingly inevitable decision to close-up shop as of the end of June.

We are so fortunate to have had such a successful business and want to take a moment to thank you all for your on-going support. Whether it’s been listening to our weekend wrap-up on radio each week, sharing our blogs, liking our posts, using our directory, following our events or sharing your comments and feedback, we appreciate it all.
We also want to give a big shout out to all our guest bloggers and contributors who have taken the time to share their stories, thoughts, insights and more with us. There are two folks in particular that we would like to mention. The first is our “Bringing Balance” blogger Wendy McCallum. Wendy, as one of our first bloggers, you certainly set the stage for others to follow. It’s been so great to watch your business grow and we know you’ve helped so many of our followers achieve a more balanced and healthy lifestyle with your amazing recipes and knowledge. Secondly is our main mama, Deanna Cogdon Miller. From your very first “But Mommm!”  blog post in February of 2011 we knew we found a winner. You opened your heart and home to all of us. You made us laugh, cry and even spit out a drink or two with your heart-warming stories, hilarious moments and your very raw and real take on life as a working mother. We thank you so very much for each and every blog you shared and wish you and your family the very best.
We also want to acknowledge Bill Hart and Jamie Patterson – both former radio hosts at 89.9 The Wave who over the years have put up with our silliness, bloopers and many re-takes.  It was certainly the highlight of our week to come visit you and record our weekend wrap-up. Our kids loved it when we recorded on a PD day so they could tag-along and have fun in the studio with you. We shared lots of laughs and we know we’ll continue to stay connected to you both.
Finally, we couldn’t have done any of this without all of our partners and advertisers who have supported us along the way. The list is too long to share from so many years in business but we would be remiss if we didn’t give a special nod to our friends (cause that’s what you’ve become) at the Discovery Centre. You have been with us from the very start and your stellar science team never missed a beat each month, providing many an Urban Parent kid with some fun and fantastic kitchen science experiments. Our kids still love watching the some of the videos you have shared with us and always looked forward to your next blog. Thank you so much for all of it. You are an awesome resource in this city and we can’t wait to check out your fabulous new building when it opens early next year. (fyi – you can find out more about the new building and follow along with the build process at: beelieve.ca
That should about cover it from our end. Our last wrap-up is scheduled for the Canada Day long weekend and as of Monday July 4th, we’ll be offline.
Thanks,
Your Urban Parent Team – Meghan, Sarah and Sean.
