There is just something so special about fresh, local food. I’m so lucky to live in a place where there are several farmers markets within driving distance.
This morning hubby and I headed further down the shore to the Musquodoboit Harbour Farmers Market. This market is a lot smaller than the Halifax one but as you will see, I was still able to find a great selection of food!
The market is held inside the community centre.
Tons of fresh produce! Looks like it’s prime veggie season.
A delicious assortment of baked goods…
I picked up some sausage from Little Dorset Farm’s booth. (They don’t appear to have a website, that’s a link to their Yelp reviews.) We’ll have those on the Eat Atlantic Challenge day.
We held off having breakfast until we got to the market… here’s hubby’s:
There were so many goodies to chose from…
I couldn’t resist a pain au chocolat, homemade by a lady in Cole Harbour.
Along with an iced coffee. Black with a little honey.
Okay, not the healthiest breakfast but definitely tasty! 😉
Hubby picked up a bottle of his favourite Chipotle Maple Pepper seasoning from Mallett’s.
This stuff is great on everything from popcorn to chicken!
After leaving the market we took a little detour down to The Tourist Trap, where I picked up some local honey. This is a cute little gift shoppe and café – that has great local food! I must come back here for a blog post some time. 🙂
Home with my arms full of fresh goodness!
We spent a total of $60, which included our breakfast. Check out all my loot!
The honey and chipotle seasoning.
Wild blueberries!! I have so many ideas for these…
A few pieces of corn on the cob, fresh baguette from Dobbit’s Bakehouse, beets & green onions.
Cherry tomatoes. Had a few of these for lunch and they’re just like candy!
Along with the sausage, a few pieces of fudge, mixed greens, potatoes…
Biscuits, croissants, biscotti, croutons & crostini. I made out quite well!
Along with all that produce I wanted to show you what I harvested from the garden last night – lots of carrots, cucumber & a few peas. The squash, zucchini & pumpkins are all coming along quite nicely too! We spent an hour weeding and tidying it all up last night. I seriously love having a garden! 🙂
Off to relax now – got a book waiting for me, a roast chicken to prep and it looks like a gorgeous afternoon for a walk!
