Suspicious activity leads police to firearm, Cole Harbour, N.S.

Police have seized a firearm from a youth in Cole Harbour. Yesterday, 11:26 p.m., members of the Halifax Regional Police Quick Response Unit (QRU) noted a suspicious male riding a bicycle near Poplar Drive and Cole Harbour Road.

Yesterday, 11:26 p.m., members of the Halifax Regional Police Quick Response Unit (QRU) noted a suspicious male riding a bicycle near Poplar Drive and Cole Harbour Road.

At first, he would not stop for the officers when they activated their emergency equipment. He eventually stopped on Otago Drive. The youth was dressed all in black with a hood pulled over his head. Further investigation revealed that the youth was in possession of a loaded sawed off rifle concealed under his sweater. Police also seized ammunition, balaclava mask and small amount of drugs.

The 16-year-old from Dartmouth will be facing numerous firearms offences under the Criminal Code including Careless Use of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. He is currently in police custody and will be appearing in Halifax Provincial Youth Court today.
