Theft suspect crashes into police cars while evading arrest

Halifax Regional Police have apprehended a man linked to a series of thefts across the region following a vehicle pursuit.

The incident unfolded on the night of December 11, around 10:35 p.m., when police tried to intercept a vehicle in Dartmouth’s 100 block of Wyse Road, connecting it to several theft cases. The suspect, refusing to halt, collided with two police vehicles while fleeing the scene. The abandoned vehicle was later discovered in the 500 block of Windmill Road. A police K-9 unit eventually located the driver near MacDonald and Wright avenues, leading to his arrest at 1:40 a.m. on December 12 without further complications.

The 42-year-old, Rene Paul Seers, was detained for his involvement in eight thefts that took place in October and November 2023.

Seers is set to face multiple charges in Halifax provincial court today, including evading police, assaulting an officer with a weapon, multiple counts of theft and possession of stolen property, and numerous breaches of probation.
