I got a lot of really great questions using FormSpring. Thought it would be fun to share my them with all of you in case you aren’t using FormSpring. I’ve tried to include a mix of serious and fun questions.

Do you believe that weight loss is always achieved through “calories in < calories out”? (Or weight maintenance in the same vein) Are all calories created equal? Got any experience to share?

Yes, it’s my belief that weight loss is simply a scientific equation of calories in vs calories out. Simple but not always easy.

I’m not an RD or a Nutritionist but I will say that no, I personally don’t think that all calories are created equally. Sure you will lose weight if you eat 1200 calories of junk or 1200 calories of healthy foods.

But at the end of the day 1200 calories of fruits & veggies, lean proteins, healthy fats & whole grains are a hell of a lot better for your body then McDonalds + Doritos. They provide a much better fuel for your body in terms of protein, fibre, minerals & vitamins.

If you restrict your diet but continue to eat unhealthy foods you body will notice the lack of proper nutrients. Think along the lines of – skin, hair, nails etc. Not to mention your overall energy level.

When I first started trying to lose weight I was in to all the 100 cal packs and artificial sweeteners because they made the transition from my horribly unhealthy diet a lot easier. However, like everything in my life I like to plan and know all the details. So I started researching these “foods” and got one hell of a scare. Did you know that artificial sweeteners can cause short term memory loss?

It also made a lot more sense to eat something like an apple + peanut butter (which provides carbs + protein that will satisfy your body) then to eat a 150-200 empty calories and be hungry again 10 mins later.

For the record I’m not perfect and will occasionally indulge in a diet pop if we’re out. 🙂 The saying everything in moderation makes perfect sense to me!

Did you know that you were going to marry your hubby?

Totally! I had such a crush and basically adored him from the moment I saw him. We’ve been through a lot together but there was just something about him, ya know? 🙂

What’s one overarching theme you’d like to convey to your blog readers, either about yourself or about your message? What do you want them to take away from all that you have to say?

I want everyone to know that ANYTHING is possible if you set your mind to it.

I know it sounds cliché but I’m living proof that if you want something bad enough you just need to go for it and never ever give up. You will succeed eventually and there is no deadline to how long it takes.

If you could have a “Do over” of one thing, what would it be?

I wouldn’t have messed around so much with my education. I went from university( IT) to college (Web Tech) to university (Arts) to college (Bus Admin). I have no idea why, but I could never decide what I wanted to do with my life. Now I look back and think I was so silly to waste so much time and money.

I really do enjoy learning though and have taken several part-time studies over the past 5 years including Small Bus Mgmt, HR, Marketing and even Medical Terminology. One day I will complete my degree.

Are you close with your parents?

Very close. In fact, I’d say they are two of my closest friends. Our relationships have come such a long way since I was a teenager. (I was a devil child.) They mean the absolute world to me and I truly cherish all the time we spend together

Do you see yourself blogging forever?

Oh dear, hubby might not want to hear the answer to this one. 😉

Yes, I can honestly say that I will probably blog (or whatever blogging eventually turns into!)forever. I really love the outlet it provides and of course, the support from all kinds of lovely strangers, some of who I now consider close friends.

I’ve been blogging for 4 years now and it’s so fun to go back and read old posts – On my anniversary it was really nice to go back and read all my posts leading up to the wedding.

What made you decide to lose weight?

I decided to lose weight for 2 main reasons:

1. I was starting to develop a lot of health problems due to my weight – type 2 diabetic, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and I was only 24. How scary is that? I got quite the reality check in 2007 and decided that I needed to do something about it once and for all.

2. To have a healthy pregnancy and teach my children how to lead a healthy and active life.

You won $100 and have been told that you have to choose whether you spend it on a amazing bottle of wine, or on a *HAWT* pair of shoes – you choose…

The hawt shoes of course!! I love wine but there’s just something about browsing all the beautiful heels….

Hope you enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about me!
